Salome Torres Alvarez

Salome Ortiz Torres Alvarez, known lovingly to all as Sally, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 82 in Irving, Texas, following a few long and courageous medical battles. Born on October 24, 1943, in Yorktown, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Torres and Tomasita Ortiz. Sally lived a full, vibrant life defined by her deep faith in God, hard work, and a fierce devotion to her family. Though she came from humble beginnings, Sally was a headstrong, goal-oriented leader who accomplished many things through sheer determination. She was a trailblazer for her family, becoming the first to move from Lamesa to Grand Prairie, Texas-a move that paved the way for her siblings and family to follow her. Sally was a strong woman and wore many hats throughout her life. In her early years, she worked at her mother's café and later dedicated herself to caring for her mother when she fell ill. A woman of many talents, she proudly worked in construction at Gifford Hill Cement Company and various other companies. Beyond her professional life, she served her community as a counselor, mentor, and skilled seamstress, crafting beautiful dresses and clothes for her daughters. In 1995, she earned her GED, an accomplishment she carried with deep pride. Her proudest achievement, however, was becoming a grandmother, a role that filled her heart. Sally never knew a stranger and opened her home to anyone who crossed her path that needed help, constantly putting others first without a second thought. Strong-willed yet incredibly kind-hearted, she was an always-forgiving mother who treated everyone with respect, no matter the circumstance. Anyone who knew her would agree that loving her was a true honor. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures. Sally loved to garden, dance, play bingo, cook, and watch her novelas. She especially cherished the time spent sharing laughs and making memories with her sister, Manuelita. She is survived by her devoted husband, Santos Alvarez; her loving children, Raul, Anna and son-in-law, Richard, Manuelita, Hector, Maribel, and Santos and daughter-in-law Armanda; and her beloved grandchildren, Marissa, Michaela, Isabella, Olivia, Richard, Aaron, Jocelyn, Elianna, Liliyana, Malina, Sofia, and Everly. She is also survived by her sister, Manuelita DeLaCruz; sister-in-law, Gabina Vasquez-Torres; and many dear nephews and nieces. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Josephine Martinez and Ramona Cantu; her brothers, Martin Torres and Thomas Torres Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, Samuel Martinez and Manuel Cantu. May she rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord, knowing that her memory will live in our hearts forever. As Sally would always joyfully say... "Let's go to the dance, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
