Ruby Helen Carender

The world will never be the same after April 12, 2023, that is the day the world lost a loving caring soul, our mother, Ruby, a name which was a precious gem to all that knew her. The sun shines a little less bright now and the stars lost some of their sparkle when she left us. Our loss is Heaven's gain! She has won the battle over sickness she closed her eyes and took her last breath here on earth and woke up in Heaven. Ruby was born at home in Tiago, TX, August 26, 1931, to Marion and Kittie Adkins. Mother told stories about how tiny she was when she was born, she was so tiny they called her ITTY BITTY. People that came through the local train station would hear about the tiny baby and would have to go see her. Bitty, stuck with her and became her nickname through life. She was so beautiful, all the boys loved her! She had so many boyfriends and said she would get engaged to each one. She was a gorgeous movie star looking teen and was very proud of her 18" waist. Out of all the boyfriends she had none stole her heart till she met John Carender. He became the love of her life. He was so shy he was too nervous to kiss her! She told us she would just look at his lips and wonder how it feel to kiss those lips! John and Ruby were married April 10, 1954. They had 4 children and moved to Grand Prairie, TX where they lived till John passed away in 1999. Ruby was a stay at home mother 'till all her kids were in school. Once all the kids were in school, she got a job with the Grand Prairie ISD where she worked in the lunch room for 27 years. Her whole life was all about her family. Ruby was truly devoted to being the best wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend. She was all that and she was a better mother than we could ever imagine or deserved. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, John Carender; her parents, Marion "MJ" Adkins and Kittie Adkins; and brothers Jay Adkins and Delbert Adkins. She is survived by sisters: Jimmie Harris & Pauline Wade; brother Leon Adkins and wife Sheilah; children; Robin Verona & husband Arthur "Skip", Charlie Carender, Sherry Chasteen and husband John, Lisa Bolin and husband Steve Baxter; grandchildren; Nathan Chasteen and wife Sylvia, Chris Spurrier and partner Melissa Houlahan, Amanda VanHorn and husband Brad, Clifford Chasteen and wife Jennifer, Shawn Spurrier and wife Sarah and Megan Baxter; great-grandchildren, Samantha Chasteen, Summer Chasteen, William VanHorn, Henry Spurrier, John Salinas, Christian Salinas, Leo Chasteen, Sophie VanHorn, Ben VanHorn, Brad VanHorn and Hattie Spurrier. Services: A visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Grand Praririe, TX 75050. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the funeral home. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Preston Bend Cemetery in Pottsboro TX.
