Pedro C. "Pete" Martinez

Pedro C Martinez, 84, of Irving, TX passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023, at The Villages of MacArthur, surrounded by his family. Pete was born on November 28, 1938, in Poteet, Texas to Pedro Martinez Sr (Father), Mauricia Ramos (Mother). Pete was raised by his mother and loving grandmother in Poteet, TX. Shortly after his grandmothers passing he left home to work various jobs from cutting stone to laying brick. He worked hard and settled in Dallas TX, where he worked at General Battery for 20 years. On March 23, 1979, Pete and Celia were united in marriage. Deciding to live in Irving TX they purchased a home and raised their three children. Most weekends you would find him cooking briskets on "Smok'n-Joe" and working on his 1959 Chevy..... that was never going to be fixed. Feeling home-sick, their family made many trips to San Antonio to be close to loved ones. After Pete's retirement he enjoyed gardening and keeping his leaf pile high. He planted tomato's and chile pequine every year. He and Celia always had hot tortillas and chile for every meal. Grand kids always made their way to the table to check out the tortilla bowl. If it was empty, there was always a clatter of the lid closing in despair. Pete loved his grand-children and was very active with them. Taking them to the park, picking them up from school, taking wagon rides, coloring or just being there whenever they needed a helping hand or a scolding, whatever was needed. On November 24, 2018 Pete and Celia renewed their vows with their loving children and extended family present. So many loving memories between the lines that we will always treasure. On April 21, 2023, Pete was re-united in heaven with his loving wife Celia. Who I'm sure had much to say to bring him up to speed on his new life in heaven. With your long strides and big foot steps you led the way. We miss you so much and you are forever in our hearts. Left to cherish your memory is your daughter, Barbara (Lee) Furness and son Gerald Chapa along with Jessica Bacarreza, Valerie (Tony) Garcia, Brandon (Lesley) Furness, Rebecca (Joshua) Urias, Sarah Furness, Gerald (Margaret) Chapa Jr, Sister Nora Tijerina, son(s) Rick Tijerina & Oscar Tijerina. 20 Great-grand Children and 1 Great-great grandchild. Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife Celia Martinez, daughter Tammy Martinez, parents Pedro Martinez Sr and Mauricia Ramos and brothers David Martinez and Timothy Ramos.
