Ollie Mae Benton

Ollie Mae Angell Benton, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on February 2, 1930, in Oklahoma, Ollie lived a life rich in love and devotion, serving as the cornerstone of her family, which proudly included a military legacy spanning Texas, New Mexico, Korea, and California. Ollie's journey eventually brought her to Tyler, Texas, in 1997, after many years spent in Irving, Plano, Seven Points, and Athens. Throughout her life, she remained steadfast in her commitment to her family, her church, and her faith in the Lord. A passionate member of First Church of Tyler, later Life Church, Ollie was known for her unwavering attendance and support, both spiritually and financially, to her pastors and fellow congregants. An avid gardener, she found joy in nurturing her yard, creating a beautiful sanctuary that reflected her vibrant spirit. Fiercely independent, Ollie enjoyed her life in Tyler, where she lived alone but was never truly alone. She was surrounded by friends whom she affectionately called "angels," who graciously assisted her in moments when she needed a helping hand. Ollie Mae Benton leaves behind her loving daughter, Linda Hamilton, and her cherished grandson, Dennis Hamilton, both of Bakersfield, California who will carry forward her legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering faith. Also by many nieces and nephews from the Dean, Benton and Angell families. A graveside service will be held at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens on January 24, 2025, at 12:30 PM. Prior to this, a public viewing will take place at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home on the same day, starting at 11:00 AM, allowing friends and family to pay their respects. In honoring Ollie's spirit, we invite everyone who knew her to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman whose love and faith touched all who had the privilege of her company. Her memories will live on in the hearts of those she loved, guiding them as they carry her light into the future. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband of almost sixty-eight years, Dennis Benton, parents, Cecil Angell, Azlee Anderson Angell and 4 siblings.
