James Tilbury Nutter

James Tilbury Nutter known to many as “Grandpa Buck” of Plano, Texas passed away on the morning of Tuesday May 26th, 2026. Born on August 24, 1940 in Bridgeport Connecticut. James was a devout Christian and a frequent attender of Oak Stone Christian Church in Allen, Texas. As anyone who has ever met him knows, James was an extrovert. He loved people. His presence at Oak Stone was welcome whenever his health permitted and his audible chuckles and comedic comments demonstrated his belief that his Creator definitely has a sense of humor. James also loved politics. He could talk for hours about international relations, world leaders and Elon Musk’s latest exploits. He enjoyed playing and teaching his grandchildren how to play chess and always had a chess set nearby. His granddaughter Jessica Boothe (17) reminded him the night before he passed that he still owed her a rematch since he thought it must have been a fluke that she actually beat him the last time they played. James’ life contained numerous ups and downs, but throughout it all he maintained a consistent – sometimes eccentric – moral integrity that he never deigned to betray. Especially where it centered around using his Social Security Number. He tried to be an upright man. He loved YHWH and his offspring: James (Jeanine) Richards of Zion, IL; April (Mark) Boothe of McKinney, TX; Lee (Becca) Richards of Columbus, OH; and Heather (Charles) Davis of San Antonio, TX. He is survived by all of them as well as his grandchildren, great grandson, nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and both his brothers. He chose to do a Green Burial at Mountain Creek Cemetery in Grand Prairie, TX with the compassionate and professional assistance of Hugo Salazar. Being laid to rest alongside his parents Leroy Dermott Nutter Jr and Freda Joan Tilbury Nutter, as well as his grandmother Winifred Warn Tilbury. The family plans to hold a private graveside service as soon as the headstone is placed, followed by a Celebration of Life Potluck (his favorite) after services at Oak Stone Christian Church with people who loved and knew him over the years.
