Guy Franklin Mathews

In Loving Memory of Guy F. Mathews Guy F. Mathews, age 74, entered his heavenly home on July 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife after a long and courageous health battle. Guy was born on March 14, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Peggy Jo Mathews and Lea K. Mathews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Diane Cantor. On September 29, 2007, Guy married the love of his life, Lisa Mathews, in Memphis, Tennessee. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and serving others. Guy is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Mathews; his children, Tiffany Mathews, Candyce McKinnon and her husband, Jeff McKinnon, and Blain Mathews and his wife, Cynthia Mathews. He also lovingly embraced Lisa's children as his own: Jeremy Waldinger and his wife, Amanda; Thomas Waldinger and his wife, Kali; and Clayton Waldinger and his wife, Anna. Guy and Lisa also spiritually adopted Courtney Horn, who held a special place in their hearts. He was the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren: Jason, Jay, Sunshine, Kyler, Colton, Paul, Lacie, Emma, Grace, Ian, Cedric, Elsie, and Ezekiel. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kelli Bair; brother-in-law, Irwin Cantor; and his nephews, Joey Barsotti and Reed Bair. Born and raised in Memphis, Guy attended St. Anne Elementary School and graduated from Catholic High School in 1970. After graduation, he attended trade school and began an apprenticeship in plumbing, eventually earning his Master Plumber's license. He spent many years serving the Dallas-Fort Worth community as a master plumber before transitioning into the plumbing supply industry. Throughout his career, he worked for several plumbing warehouses across the DFW area and ultimately retired from Winston Water Coolers in Dallas, where he served as an Inside Sales Manager and Quote Manager for large commercial construction projects. Faith was the cornerstone of Guy's life. In 2002, he graduated from Pathways, Class 196, and was honored to serve as a Small Group Leader. That same year, he was baptized at Heartland Church, where he became a faithful and active member. He found great joy in leading men's small groups, including Fathered by God and Freedom groups, serving on the Baptism Team, and investing in the spiritual growth of others. Guy and Lisa also faithfully served together in the Couples Training Ministry for nearly twelve years, encouraging and mentoring countless couples in their walk with Christ. While Guy was deeply involved in his church and community, his greatest love was always his family. He cherished every role he held-as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He often said that his many friends were simply family he was fortunate enough to choose. His loyalty and steadfast love touched countless lives. Guy embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He loved music, spirited games of backgammon, dominoes, and billiards, and he never missed an opportunity to laugh with family and friends. His greatest passion was helping others become the best version of themselves, offering wisdom, encouragement, and practical support to anyone in need. His legacy is one of faith, compassion, integrity, and unwavering love. Though his earthly journey has ended, the impact of Guy's life will continue to be felt by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Heartland Church in Carrollton, Texas. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of a life well lived and a man whose faith, love, and kindness left an enduring legacy.
