Virginia Freiburghaus Welling Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Virginia Betty Welling, 99, a native of South Dakota and long-time resident of Grand Prairie, passed away February 5, 2022 at a hospital in Arlington, Texas. Virginia Freiburghaus Welling grew up in the small town of Madison, SD. She graduated from Madison High School in 1940. She played basketball and enjoyed English. During her Freshman year of high school she met and began dating Joe Welling. They were married in 1941 and moved to Texas. Virginia was predominately a stay at home wife, working for a brief period at Vought Aircraft and in 1952 she and Joe had a daughter, Jody Lynn. Virginia, Joe and Jody enjoyed many travels, often camping in State and National Parks. In 1977 her first grandchild was born, Andrew. Then in 1980 her granddaughter Jennifer was born. Over the years, Virginia, Joe, Andrew and Jenny enjoyed many fun times together. Virginia was married to Joe until his passing in 2018, almost 77 years married. She loved playing cards and board games, traveling, doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper, she was an avid reader and loved Louis L'amour novels. She was a smart lady, with great timing for jokes. She loved to listen to Patsy Cline and to dance with Joe. She had many great friends and enjoyed spending time with them as well. She is survived by her grandson Andrew Charles, granddaughter Jenny Watson and her husband Wayne, her great grandchildren Brittany, Ryan and Chelsea. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Lillian Freiburghaus, her two brothers - Lester and Melvyn, her daughter Jody Charles, and her husband Joe. Visitation: 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 12:30. Burial will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.
