January 16, 1921 - May 20, 2020
Roberta P. Lamb, 99, loving referred to by all as Granny Lamb, a fifth generational matriarch, faithful servant of Christ and long-time resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, May 20, 2010. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2020 at Mid Cities Church where funeral services will follow at 1, Bishop Hank Freelen and Pastor Ryan Holley officiating. Burial: Southland Memorial Park. Roberta Pauline Rose Lamb was born January 16, 1921 in Lamar County, the third of seven daughters born to the late William Woody Rose and the late Minnie Viola Watson Rose. As a child, she learned discipline and a strong work ethic. Even in a family of all girls, her father expected them to be diligent and strong. Those characteristics remained a part of her life for the next ninety-years. She would marry the late Wilson Monroe Lamb. They would continue the tradition of raising daughters, having 3 of their own. They would remain happily married for fifty-seven years until the time of his death in 1994. Ellen, Rosie and Dorothy remember their mother as a strong lady, working many years in the Grand Prairie Independent School District as a lunchroom manager. She worked several years at Sam Houston Elementary, spending the last 19 years at Stephen F. Austin. At the completion of her tenure, she had accumulated more than 100 days of sick leave. Her Saturday ritual always included searching garage sales for bargains. She had an eye for a good deal, and often made extra money reselling items. More than anything, her faith was the most important part of her life. She attended church at Grand Prairie United Pentecostal Church, (now Mid-Cities Church) where she was active in various ministries. Many children in Grand Prairie remember the times of her visits, working in the bus ministry, often taking them to her own home to make sure faces were washed before church. Her legacy and love touched many during her time on earth. In addition to Wilson M. Lamb, she was also preceded in death by her husband of twenty-one years, Yates Shields. Survivors: daughters, Ellen Lamb Webster and her spouse Don, Rosie Lamb Martin and her spouse Bobby, Dorothy Lamb Kegley; 3 generations of grandchildren, including 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 6 sisters, Leslie Rose Aubrey, Letris Rose Cherry, Robbie Rose Gilbert, Virginia Rose Porter, Loretta Rose Allen and Nellie Rose Kyle.
