Martin "Marty" Owens

June 4, 1954 - December 31, 2013

Martin "Marty" Owens, 59, loving son, brother, uncle and friend, died unexpectedly in the early hours of December 31, 2013 at his home in Arlington. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2013 at DFW National Cemetery with military honors. Marty was born on June 4, 1954, the son of Gerald Phillip Owens and Lova Lee Martin. He was a graduate of the American International School of Kabul in 1972. He would join the US Navy, serving until receiving an honorable discharge in 1975. After his military service, he would attend The University of Texas in Arlington, receiving a B.A. Degree in 1982. Marty's love of culture and adventure took him to all points of the globe. He was an avid gun collector and military history enthusiast. He was a previous employee of J.C. Penny, working as a forklift operator and yard truck driver. He was most recently employed by Cowtown Charters, driving a tour bus to various destinations. Survivors: parents, Gerald Owens, Lee Bonnewell; siblings, Mike Owens, Marsha Backes and her husband Karl, Melva Edwards and her husband Billy, Tracy Bonnewell; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family request donations in Marty's name to any local A.S.P.C.A.
