William Robert Purviance, Jr

William Robert Purviance Jr., a proud father, grandfather, and lover of the open road passed away peacefully at the age of 72 at his home in Grand Prairie, Texas. Known by friends and family as Bill, he was born on December 13, 1952 in Midway, Indiana. Named after his dad, William Sr., he was the first boy after seven girls. His parents William and Charlene had a family of ten children, eight girls and two boys. Over the years Bill was a dedicated and hard worker. He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving four years. He went on to have many different careers over the years, most notably working at Lemmon's trucking company with his father, working in the coal mines in Illinois, driving eighteen wheelers across the country, and spent a significant amount of time working for International Paper, retiring in 2014. For several years he worked part time as a maintenance director at the Third Church of Christ, Scientist in Dallas. He ended his career working part time for the city of Grand Prairie in the parks and recreation department. Bill loved riding his Harley Davidson. He was happiest when he was out on the open road. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful father to his daughter Heather Irish and a proud grandfather to his grandson Damien. In 2009, he welcomed his son in law Tim and granddaughter Alana into his life. Six years ago, Bill was blessed to discover he had another daughter, Sabrina McCann-Fricke. He was excited to welcome her into his life along with her wife Belinda and eight more wonderful grandchildren: Adrian, Olivia, Garrett, Marion, Harmony, Jude, Brielle, and Astrid. Bill's life was a reflection of commitment-not just to his jobs, but to his loved ones, his faith, and the passions that drove him. He was a steadfast presence, always ready to lend a hand or share a story, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Funeral services for Bill will be held on April 2, 2025 at 10 am at DFW National Cemetery. We will gather to share their reminiscences and honor a man who worked tirelessly and loved deeply. Bill Purviance will be missed, but his spirit will forever ride on, as free as the wind that danced through his hair on those cherished motorcycle rides.
