Thomas Fred "Gramps" Decker

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Decker, a beloved sign artist, devoted father, Gramps and cherished member of the Grand Prairie community for over 50 years. Thomas peacefully departed this world on November 10, 2023 at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of artistic works and a loving family. Born on December 29, 1934 to Emil and Zelda Decker in Bomarton, TX, Thomas Decker was a gifted sign painter whose works adorned numerous spaces across our town. His passion for art was evident in every brushstroke, as he effortlessly infused colors and captured emotions on signage. Through his talent, Thomas was able to inspire and touch the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape. While his artistic achievements were notable, Thomas's greatest source of joy and pride was his family. He treasured the time spent with his children and and all of his grandchildren. They brought him immense happiness and joy. He was a loving and devoted father, ensuring that he was always there to offer guidance, support and the unconditional love that only a parent can provide. Thomas is survived by his children; Tommy Decker & wife Sherri of Clifton, TX, Timothy Decker and wife Rita of Granbury, TX, Jerry Decker of Grand Prairie, TX, Tony Decker of Itasca, TX, John Decker and wife Dee of Red Oak, TX, Joni Decker Haney and husband Marc of Grand Prairie, TX, Julie Decker of Grand Prairie, TX; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Sadly, Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; Emil and Zelda; brothers; Calvin, Emil Jr; sisters; Emma Jean and Mildred. Thomas was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-four years, Joyce Ball Decker who passed away in 2001. Their bond was one of deep love and companionship and her departure left a void that Thomas carried in his heart throughout the years. Thomas Decker was a long-time member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. His faith played a significant role in his life, guiding him through both joys and challenges. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. November 17, 2023, at the Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 E. Main Street, Grand Prairie, TX, 75050. Please join use in honoring Thomas's life on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 410 NE 27th St, Grand Prairie, TX 75050 where Funeral Services are scheduled at 10 a.m., Pastor David Grice officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney, TX.
