Mrs. Shirley Jean Martinez

Shirley Martinez, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at her residence in Whitney, TX. Shirley was born on April 22, 1950, in Long Beach, CA, the second of five children born to the late Frederick Myers and the late Thelma Dutton Myers. Shirley dedicated her life to her family and the simple joys that brought her happiness. Though she did not obtain a formal degree, she possessed a wisdom and zest for life that surpassed any diploma. After years of hard work, Shirley retired from her role at Parts Unlimited at the age of sixty-seven. One of Shirley's greatest passions was her love for animals. Her compassionate heart led her to care for countless strays, providing them with a safe and loving home. Her generosity extended beyond the animal kingdom, as she would often be found rummaging through thrift stores, searching for treasures to share with her loved ones. Shirley had a deep connection to the beach, finding solace in the crashing waves and sandy shores. It was her dream to someday live by the sea, surrounded by the beauty of nature. She found joy in working outside, where she could feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and witness the wonders of the natural world. She is survived by her husband, Gabriel Martinez, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Shirley's children were her pride and joy, and she leaves behind her children, Rebecca Ontiveros her spouse Tony, Patrick Dudding and his wife Mercy, Dennise Fletcher and her husband Jerry, daughter Bethany Gonzalez and her husband Raul, Stephen Dudding. Also by her grandchildren, Nathan Ontiveros, Johnathan Ontiveros, Jose Dudding, Laura Sanchez, Nicholas Dudding, Brittany Mangum, Jodi Ingle, Ashlyn Ingle; 3 great-grandchildren, Noah, Evangeline and Nirvana. Shirley's devotion to her family extended beyond her immediate relatives. She leaves behind cherished memories with her sister Linda Cameron, brother Fred Myers, and sister Vicki White. Through their shared experiences and loving support, they built a lifelong connection that will forever be cherished. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Myers. In the spirit of celebrating Shirley's remarkable life, a Funeral Service will be held on January 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Guerrero Dean Funeral Home. Prior to the service, a Public Viewing will take place beginning at 11:00 am. Shirley Martinez will forever be remembered for her kind heart, her love for her family, and her unwavering appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the local animal shelter in Shirley's memory. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memories forever bring comfort to those she left behind.
