Rodney Kent Woodruff

Rodney Kent Woodruff passed on January 3, 2026 in Irving, Texas at the age of 60. Born August 11, 1965, in Shreveport, LA, Rod and family moved many times due to his father's work with Mobil Oil. From Shreveport, they moved to Buena Park, CA for 1 year, Anchorage, AK for 7 years, Midland, TX for 3 years, and Calgary, Alberta, CA for about 6 years before finally moving to Dallas, TX in the early 1980's. Rod attended Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary. Rod had a kind spirit, made friends in school easily, and maintained those friendships through the years. He attended Brookhaven community college in Dallas and graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree in photojournalism. Rod later earned a second bachelor's degree in Information Technology from Devry University. Rod met the love of his life, Kirsten Lee Adair, at a gaming club at Brookhaven Community College. In their early years together, they enjoyed the community and creativity of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and outings to Scarborough Renaissance Festival as well as a shared love of animals and music. Rod and Kirsten married on January 2, 1992 and enjoyed 34 years of marriage. They welcomed their son, James Carter Adair-Woodruff, in 1998 and expanded their family through adoption of their beloved daughters, Marii Isabel Woodruff and Lillian Aftyn Meador Woodruff. Rod spent the majority of his career in printing and technology, joining FedEx in 2010, where he was a valued member of their IT team. Rod was passionate about the Kansas City Chiefs football team and Dallas Stars hockey team. His hobbies included photography, music, especially guitars, golf and cooking, especially Texas barbecue. He was a very creative chef and thoroughly enjoyed his time in the kitchen and at the grill. He was also especially attached to the family dogs and cats and always had room in his home and heart for one (or two) more. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Wilma Woodruff of Horseshoe Bay, TX. He leaves behind his wife, Kirsten Adair-Woodruff, his three children: Jamie, Marii, and Lily, his brother Ty Woodruff and wife Shannon of Horseshoe Bay, TX; and many beloved pets. Rod's service will be Saturday, January 17th at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Coppell. A viewing will be held Friday, January 16th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home in Grand Prairie. Friends and family are also invited to a celebration of Rod's life at the family home at 3501 Wingren Drive in Irving on Sunday January 18th from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Owen K Ross, Rev. Dr. Sumesh Jacob, Rev. Danielle Buwon Kim, and Rev. William E La Barr will preside over the funeral service with Jamie Woodruff, Jeffrey Helsley, John Engelke, Jack Dale, Garrett Dale, and Mikael Lindström acting as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, family are requesting that donations be made to the Gladney Center for Adoption.
