Norbert Sylester Ewers

Norbert S. Ewers, 89, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 18, 2024, with family by his side. Norbert was born August 10, 1934, on a farm in Hitchcock, OK, to the late Henry Ewers and the late Helen Kloppel. After graduating from Hitchcock High School in 1952, he went on to study at Oklahoma State University before starting his first job at Continental Baking Co. He would work there for 10 years in Oklahoma City, OK before joining the Air Force Reserves. Then In 1956 Norbert met Ruthie at a stop light in Watonga, OK. After marrying the love of his life on May 18, 1957, they would later have two sons, Joe and Ronnie. In 1974 Norbert and Ruthie moved from Oklahoma City to Dallas where they started LEE Data Mail. The company grew into a very successful business, they would later sell in 1998. In 1999 Norbert and Ruthie moved to Rio Grande Valley- Harlingen, Tx. They lived there until August 2018 when they returned home to Grand Prairie to be close to family. Norbert was also a longtime member of Open Door Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. For anyone that knew him, knew, he was such a quiet, gentle, and loving soul. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be deeply missed by so many that loved him. Norbert is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Arlene, Mary Agnes, and Catherine; brothers, Ben and Phillip; and brother-in-law, Tom Ottis. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruthie (Souther) Ewers; sons, Joe Ewers and wife Diane, and Ronnie Ewers and wife Becky; grandchildren, Ryan and Brittany Ewers, Carlee and Jason Smith, Britt Ewers and Zach Staats, Blair and Daniel Wood, and Cassie Brackeen; great-grandchildren, Bryson Ewers, Colton Ewers, Payton Smith, Dax Wood, Lyra Wood, Annberlyn Brackeen, Benjamin Brackeen; sisters, Betty Lou Broburg and husband Carlos, and Theresa Ottis; brother in law, Tom Souther and wife, Lonne; and a huge buttload of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held, at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Open Door Baptist Church, 2545 W. Warrior Trail, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. Officiating, Dr. James Hogue, and Dr. Bill Skaar.
