Mildred "Mimi" Elizabeth Shirey

Mildred "Mimi" Elizabeth Shirey, 89, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday, February 19, 2021 at her home. Mildred was born November 30, 1931 to the late Grady Cates and the late Hattie Faye Boswell in Cement, Oklahoma. After high school, Mildred married the love of her life, Travis Shirey, and they would share 63 years building a life together. You could often find her family gathered in her home to celebrate holidays, birthdays or for weekly family dinners. She was well known for her cooking, especially for her homemade rolls. When she wasn’t preparing a delicious meal, you could find her tending to her garden, giving special attention to the roses, as those were her favorite. She also enjoyed fishing trips with her family. Mildred was proud to be 1/8 Cherokee Indian and Oklahoma always held a special place in her heart. She had a successful career as a realtor and was owner of Avery Real Estate for over 20 years. She was voted Realtor of the Year in 1975 in Grand Prairie. She left a mark wherever she went, not just as a realtor, but also in her other career ventures. You could find her selling tools at trade shows or you might have run into her at Possum Kingdom State Park Store where she enjoyed assisting and visiting with park guests for over 10 years. She loved people, and they loved her. Mildred also loved angels and she filled her home and garden with beautiful angels. Her real passion in life was always her family and she was lovingly known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Travis Shirey and daughter Mary Shirey. Mildred is survived by daughter Dorothy Clark and her husband Mike; daughter, Trisha Shirey; son, Mike Shirey and wife Alecia; daughter, Lisa Nichols and husband Jeff; daughter Linda Shirey; grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Lauren, Christopher, Kelcey, and Brian; great grandchildren, Jaden, Conner, and Jamie; sisters, Mary Ann Fivecoat, Shirley Buck, and Geneva Estep; a host of nieces and nephews; and her rescued puppies, Lucky and Holly A Graveside Service will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 1:00 pm, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mildred’s name to the Susan G.
