Michael Louis Potter "Cub"

Michael Louis Potter "Cub”, 70, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. He was born July 25, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to the late Milton Louis Potter and the late Laura Frances Thompson. Michael was a graduate of Grand Prairie High School, class of 66, and earned a Business degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Michael began working in the vending services business at age 14 and continued this career for over 40 years. His second career was being a well-loved teacher in Grand Prairie ISD. Michael was a simple man with a servant's heart, a cheerful smile and a generous spirit. His life revolved around his family and friends. One of “Paw Paw’s” greatest pleasures was playing a very active role in his grandchildren’s lives - he wouldn't miss an event! He loved to minister to the sick or hurting with prayer and visits. He is well known for his beautiful tenor singing voice and loved to sing hymns and praises to God. He never met a stranger and was kind to all. Michael was a member of multiple churches and loved the Word of God. Throughout the years, on Sundays, he faithfully attended First Christian Church, Mid-Cities Tabernacle, Turnpike and Burbank Gardens Churches of Christ. For several years he attended services at more than one church every Sunday. After his Dad's passing, he took his mom to lunch almost every Sunday after church for 20 years. Michael was part of the inter-denominational prayer breakfast which met for many years on Saturdays at the Red R coffee shop, then at Theo's. Saturday breakfast at Theo's continues to this day. Friday's after work, Michael would have "HT", or "Happy Time", on his patio. If you were one of the regulars, then you knew what it meant, but for those who didn't get to experience it, let's just say "what happens on the porch, STAYS on the porch." Michael was a humble man. In the day to day struggles life throws at us, Cub did it with a smile on his face and thanks in his heart...all the while trying to help someone else have a better day. For the last three years, he has struggled with the "c-word" (as he called it) and the awful effects it has on your body, but he maintained his unwavering faith, hope and love for Jesus Christ and others. His hobbies were listening to music, fishing, gardening, watching the sun rise and set, but especially he loved just being with his family and friends. Michael is survived by his son, Jason Potter and wife, Lori Farris Potter; former wife and friend of more than 50 years Marielle, "Mimi" Potter; granddaughter, Alexis "Lexi" Potter; grandson, Luke Potter; sisters - Deborah Richards, Melody Sexton and husband Lyndell, Kristi Potter LaCour, Lori Jones and husband Scott; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Paw Paw Cub would want us all to ‘Celebrate Life” and “Live it Up”. #foreverlove Visitation will be held Wednesday May 8, 2019 from 6-8 pm at The Summit located at 2975 Esplanade, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. A Celebration of Michael's life will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 9 am, at CrossPoint Church of Christ located at 3020 Bardin Rd, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052.
