Jorene "Jody" Everett

Patsy Jorene "Jody" Everett, 80, a life-long resident of Athens, Texas, entered into eternal life surrounded by family on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at a local care center following a lengthy illness. Jody was born on July 16, 1932, the youngest daughter born to the late Lonnie Egbert Benton and the late Era Lavada Walling Benton Walker. She attended school in Athens, completing her education by becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked many years for Henderson County Memorial Hospital in the emergency room, and even later at East Texas Medical Center. On February 5, 1949, she would marry Chester Daniel Everett, with whom she would spend the next 57 years. They would make their home in Athens, he working as a custom farmer, and she for the hospital. They would become parents to 2 children, Dana and Jayson, and doting grandparents to 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In later years, they would become owners of Everett Properties, continuing until the decline in Chester's health. She would become his care-giver, supporting him faithfully until the time of his death in February of 2006. Jody's life revolved around her faith and church, diligent in her attendance and support until the decline of her health. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Billy Wayne Benton, and her oldest brother, Lonnie Benton Jr. She is survived by her children, Dana Everett Lozano and her husband Raymond, Jayson Everett and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Amy Jo McCracken, Sarah Whiteley, Joshua Morgan, Whitney Rawls; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Benton Dean and her husband, Rev. William "Bill", Dennis Benton and his wife Ollie, Elton Benton and his wife Loretta; sister-in-law, Nell Benton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the First United Pentecostal Church of Athens, 101 MacArthur Street, where she was a member for more than 54 years. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon, Pastor Johnny Grissom and Rev. O.E. Davis officiating. Burial will follow beside her husband at Shelby Cemetery. Florists are requested to deliver flowers to the church after 9 a.m. Friday.
