Reverend Johnny Curtis Benson

Reverend Johnny C. Benson, age 86, of Euless, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 26, 2026. He was born July 30, 1939, in Waco, Texas to Johnny and Gladys Benson and was raised in the countryside of Blum, Texas, where he developed a lifelong love for faith, family, and hard work. In 1960, he received the gift of the Holy Ghost, a defining moment that ignited his calling into ministry. In 1961, he attended Pentecostal Bible Institute in Tupelo, Mississippi, and became a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church International. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Sharon Lane, at General Conference in Columbus, Ohio. They married in 1963 and began evangelizing together throughout the southern United States, sharing the Gospel through preaching and music—Johnny on guitar and Sharon on accordion. They welcomed their first daughter, Annette, in 1964. He served as Associate Pastor at Northside United Pentecostal Church in Waco beginning in 1965 and became pastor of Glen Rose United Pentecostal Church in 1967. In 1969, he answered the call to establish a church in Euless, Texas—a mission that became his life’s work. In 1971, his second daughter, Veta, was born. In 1993, he welcomed his son-in-law, Carl McLaughlin, into the family, and in 1996 they began serving together in pastoral ministry. Pastor Benson faithfully led the church he founded for more than five decades, leaving a lasting spiritual legacy. He also served as Texas Foreign Missions Director and as a Trustee on the Texas Bible College Board. Beyond ministry, he loved ranching, hunting, and riding horses, especially at his ranch in Joplin, Texas. He was known as a man of integrity, strength, generosity, and joyful humor. His greatest joy was his family, and he treasured every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sharon Benson; his daughters, Annette Duvall and Veta McLaughlin and husband Carl; his sister, Charla Lewis and husband Tony; his grandchildren, Ellerie Saucer (Kaleb), Jonmichael McLaughlin (Gabby), Jacob Duvall (Brooke), Blake McLaughlin (Claire), Rachel Duvall, and Jenna McLaughlin; and his great-grandchildren, Easton, Adleigh, Beckham, Brielle, Benson, Nora, and Emma. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Benson, his mother, Gladys Benson, and his sister, Lanelle Garrison. Pastor Benson’s life was marked by unwavering faith, sacrificial service, and deep love for God, his family, and the church. His legacy lives on through the congregation he founded, the ministers he influenced, and the generations he inspired. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, March 5, 2026 from 6 to 8 pm at Calvary United Pentecostal Church, 204 N Ector Drive, Euless, TX, 76039 where Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, March 6, 2026 at 11 am. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
