Jay D Culpepper

Jay D. Culpepper Jr. was 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed from his earthly bonds to eternal life on Thursday November 17th 2016 at Dallas Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Memorial Service: Visitation with family and friends at 1 p.m. Service at 2:00 Tuesday at Peace Church, 2401 N. Beltline Road, Mesquite, TX, 75150, Pastor Les Cody, Ruth Crabtrey and Pop’s Cody officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be directed to Peace Church with designation of missionary, Jay Newsome. Jay (Jr.) was born on Feb 1, 1943, the 2nd of 5 children. He was born to the late J.D. Culpepper and the late Maudie Helen Camp Culpepper Short in Pine Bluff, AR. At the age of 15, he would walk the highways to California until there were no soles left on his shoes to marry the love of his life, the late Delores Ann Mullins (affectionately known as Dodie). Over the next fifty-five years, they would become parents to 5 children and numerous grandchildren. Because of his job as a Master Electrician, they would live in various places across the United States. Their residences would include California, Washington, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico before settling in Texas in 1970. Balch Springs would become their permanent home. Jay had a passion for music his entire life; even playing live music at the early age of 13. He recorded many records and continued to play music until his passing. Jay had many hobbies and was a very talented artist, airplane pilot, fisherman, songwriter, model train and plane enthusiast and loved spending time with his family. Throughout Jay’s life he rescued and cared for many exotic animals. Over the years he cared for a raccoon, fox, lizards, snakes, sugar gliders, ferrets, dogs, cats, salt water fish tanks, chickens, horses and all sorts of exotic birds. More than anything, Jay was a great provider to his family. He and Dodie were parents to many and opened their doors to anyone in need. He is survived by his children, Michael David Culpepper and his spouse Vickey, Karry Michelle Culpepper Sanders and spouse Keith, Terry Dee Ann Culpepper Bonet and spouse Charles, Jason David Culpepper and his spouse Summer, Ann Nicole Culpepper Cody and spouse Les. Also by twenty-seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; Sisters, Jean Culpepper Hankins and husband Larry, Marquitta Short Magnini and brother, Marty Short, In addition to parents he was also preceded in death by brother Larry Culpepper.
