Ernie Taylor

Ernest Roy Taylor, 69, passed away Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, in Cherokee, Alabama. He was born February 14, 1955, in Cisco, Texas, to the late Ernest Dean Taylor and the late Helen Marie (Gumbert) Taylor. After graduating from Grand Prairie High School in 1973, Ernie answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1974. For 20 years, he dedicated himself to military service, where he excelled in many things but especially as a drill sergeant, instilling discipline, and honor in countless young Marines. He was immensely proud of his service and carried the values he learned throughout his life. Outside of his military career, Ernie was a passionate musician, whose love for music resonated with everyone he met. He was known for his exceptional guitar skills and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends, often filling the room with laughter and joy through his playful performances. In addition to his musical talents, Ernie was widely recognized as a brilliant mechanic, endearingly referred to as a "grease monkey." His hands could fix and create, and he often lent a helping hand to anyone in need of repairs. Ernie had a special affinity for animals and children, earning him the affectionate title of “Uncle Ernie.” His sense of humor, quick wit, and incredible storytelling ability captivated all who were lucky enough to hear his tales, bringing smiles and laughter to gatherings. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. Ernie will be remembered fondly by his family and friends for his unwavering commitment to his country, his musical genius, and his kind heart. Rest in peace, Ernie Taylor. Your spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved you. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Taylor; stepson Brian Poe and wife Kimberly; grandchildren, Lylah and Emily; sister, Debbie Boerner and husband Gerald; brother, Gary Taylor and wife Tracy; sister, Shari Hyde and husband David; uncle, RB Taylor; nieces and nephews, Ashley, Amber, Glen, Josh, Briana, Jamie, April, Taylor, Haven; and many cousins, great nieces and nephews; former spouse’s, Maggie and Sue; and stepson Randy; and a host of friends. A Celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Guerrero Dean Funeral Home, 500 E Main St, Grand Prairie, Texas 75050. Rev. Dennis King, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home March 5, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Burial will follow at 2 p.m.at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home under the direction of Aaron King, Funeral Director.
