Elizabeth Margaret Mersereau

Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Porter Mersereau, 82, a retired real estate broker, wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at 1 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery. Betty Porter Mersereau was born on August 23, 1935 in Doaktown, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Murray Porter and the late Josephine Winifred Braun Porter. She came from a large and loving family and was the 4th of 8 children. Shortly following World War II, she would meet an army military policeman, Norris Barron Mersereau. They would marry and spend the next sixty-five years of life together. Their life and marriage would be full of joy and excitement, living in various places in the United States that include Massachusetts and Nevada before settling in Plano, Texas. Their life would be blessed with 4 loving children and 3 adoring grandchildren. Betty would receive her real estate license in 1964, and continue selling until her retirement in 1992. Even after her retirement from real estate, she would continue to work in clothing retail at various clothing locations, including Venture, Jumbo Sports, and Old Navy. She loved being around the younger shoppers, who knew her only as grandma. Working at these locations also allowed her to purchase new clothing at a discount for her grandchildren. Betty loved playing bingo, shopping and dancing. More than anything, playing bingo was her favorite. She and Norris would travel all over the United States and Canada, taking their last trip in 2015. In addition to her husband, Norris, she is survived by; children, Pamela Mersereau Cher and her spouse Edmund, Valerie Mersereau DoBrava and her spouse Tim, Dwight Mersereau and his spouse Natasha, Victoria Mersereau Beattie and her companion Scott Allen; grandchildren, Brian Manders and his spouse Karen, Courtney Cher, Emily Mersereau; siblings, Mae Lyons, Philip Porter and his spouse Joyce and Lillian Harris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Noreen Fisher, Marie Pond, Lorenzo Porter and Leoria Brunet. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be give to the American Alzheimer's Association in Elizabeth's name.
