Delia Gomez

Delia Gomez, 86, a long-time resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Delia was born on October 4, 1928 in Brownsville, Texas; one of eleven children born to the late José Benito and Albina Gil Garcia. Delia, was a faithful servant of Christ, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and sister. She grew up in the South Texas Valley and married the late Benedicto Cerna Gomez on August 6, 1947. Together they resided in Victoria, Texas before coming to Grand Prairie in 1970. Benedicto preceded her in death on June 13, 1999 after more than 50 years of marriage. Delia was a gifted seamstress. She loved sewing and selling her creations at various locations and craft events. She was active with the Arts and Crafts Guild of Dallas, the East Side Creative Art Association, and the NW Art Association, both of Ft. Worth. She was a faithful member of Turnpike Church of Christ, Burbank Gardens Church of Christ and, most recently, CrossPoint Church of Christ in Grand Prairie, Texas. Surviving children are Benedicto Gomez, Glenda Ruth Gomez Smith and husband Mark, José Israel Gomez, Elizabeth Ann Gomez, Francisco Samuel Gomez and wife Gayla, Benjamin Gomez and wife Angelica, Rebecca Mae Gomez Almanza and husband Joe, Noah Indalecio Gomez and wife Debbie, Sara Nieves Gomez Kokojan and husband Lawrence, John Abraham Gomez and wife Irene, Alby Priscilla Gomez Pinon, James Paul Gomez and wife Clarissa, and Delia Abygail Gomez Bowden and husband Del. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great–grandsons and three siblings, Roberto Garcia, Eliseo Garcia and Teresa Garcia Gonzalez. In addition she has many beloved sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Francisco Garcia, José Angel Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Eugenio Garcia, Antonio Garcia, Ernesto Garcia, and Israel Garcia. The family is grateful for the care given to their mother by the staff of Arlington Residence & Rehabilitation Center.
