Charlie Carender

With heavy hearts, we reflect upon the life and legacy of Charlie "Bubba" Carender, a lifelong resident of Grand Prairie, Texas. Born on December 17, 1958, Charlie passed away at his home on Monday, October 21, 2024. Fondly known as Bubba to those closest to him, he will be remembered for his unwavering love for his hometown and his passion for country, cars, music, and family. A true Patriot, he was waiting anxiously to go vote, but did not get the opportunity. A proud graduate of Grand Prairie High School, class of 1977, Charlie was a skilled mechanic who found joy in working on fast cars and hot rods, winning numerous awards for his craftsmanship at various car shows across the county. He worked many years for Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, retiring for medical reasons following a stroke. His prized possession was his '68 Camaro, a symbol of his dedication to his craft. He love Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR. In addition to his love for cars, Charlie was an avid fan of country music, particularly a devotee of Hank Williams Jr., also known as Bocephus. His affection for music extended to his loyal companion, his dog Bo, named after his favorite artist. Charlie's hobbies also included horses, as he spent many peaceful hours riding and tending to them in a pasture on Meyers Road, sharing these experiences with his family, nephews and friends. He was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, and grilled outdoors for every game. He is survived by his sisters, Robin Verona and husband Arthur "Skip", Sherry Chasteen and husband John, and Lisa Baxter and husband Steve, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also by his aunts; Jimmie Harris, Pauline Wade, Sheilah Adkins and an uncle, Rev. Leon Adkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carender and mother, Ruby Carender. Honoring his life, a public visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 24th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 E Main St., Grand Prairie, TX, 75050. Graveside Service: Friday, October 25th, at 12:30 PM at Preston Bend Cemetery in Pottsboro, TX. As we reflect on the life of Charlie "Bubba" Carender, we remember a man who embraced his passions and shared his love generously with those around him. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
