Callie Olline Boles

BOLES, CALLIE OLLENE BALL, Born April 13, 1917 in the town of Layfayette, Walker County, Georgia to John Coleman Ball and Alberta Lovern Ball, she passed away Monday morning at about 5:30 a.m., October 20, 2003, in Dallas, Texas. She suffered several debilitating strokes prior to her death. Callie spent her youth in small towns in Northern Georgia and Eastern Tennessee. She attended school at McMinn County High School, and was trained as a nurse in Foree Hospital both in Athens, Tennessee. Callie was known for being very hardworking and industrious. During the Great Depression she worked two jobs to help support her family. In 1946, Callie moved to Dallas and worked as a nurse at Parkland Hospital. She married Vernon Shaw in 1947. She and her husband, Vernon, were the proprietors of Shaw Foundry, first located on South Industrial Blvd., then at Burbank and Harry Hines Blvd. They resided in Highland Park. In the mid 1960's Vernon Shaw's grave and lengthy health problems caused the Shaw Foundry to be dissolved. Callie began working in Food and Beverage management positions at Brookhollow Golf Club, Vic's Restaurant, and the Prestonwood Country Club. In the early 1970's Callie began assisting her husband, Jess H. (Jack) Boles, in the management of his company, Jack Boles Parking Service. Together, with their famous outgoing personalities, and quick wit they established a business with high standards of service excellence, and customer satisfaction. Their combined effort created a tradition for the managers, the employees, and the owners of the company to follow. Mrs. Boles retired from active management in 1979, although she continued a position on the company Board Of Directors. She spent her retirement with Jack, and shopping, and maintained a very close relationship with her only child Pam, and Pam's family. During her employment at Brookhollow Golf Club she met Jack Boles. Their relationship and marriage of over 35 years will always be a testimony of the blessing of how true love can be found beginning during middle age. Their last years, although spent in assisted living and nursing quarters, exemplified a marital love relationship that would not fail due to deteriorative health. In spite of the difficulties of failing health they managed to continually express their open affection for one another. The employees of these assistance facilities labeled them "the lovebirds". Her devoted and loving husband, Jess H. (Jack) Boles preceded Callie in death by only 37 days. Those that knew them well were not surprised by her departure. She and Jack always wanted to be together. Callie was also preceded in death by her parents John Coleman Ball and mother Alberta Lovern Ball of Columbus, Ga., and her older brother Wilson Ball of Miledgeville, Ga. Her family lineage included the Lovern, and Lord families that were active in the originally settling of the State of Georgia. Additional family survivors include her brother Retired U.S. Army Colonel Ray Ball and his wife Ruth Mozo Ball of Columbus, Ga., and sister in law, Lois Ball of Miledgeville, Ga. Daughter Pamela K. Hamilton, and her husband David S. Hamilton of Irving, stepson Jack Neil Boles, and stepdaughter Janet Boles Thompson. The surviving grandchildren are Keturah Hamilton Labat, Tabitha Hamilton Gibson, Asher Hamilton, Texas K. Boles, Terri Jo Boles Johnson, Jay Stoneback, Jamie Dunnam, and Julie Harris. Fourteen great grandchildren also survive him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Crystal Charity Ball, #30 Highland Park Village, Suite #206, Dallas, Texas 75205, or a charity of your choice. Callie Ball Boles' family will receive friends and acquaintances at the Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 East Main Street, Grand Prairie, Texas, between six and eight p.m., Thursday evening, October 23, 2003. A brief memorial service will beconducted Friday, October 24th at Christ Temple Church, 310 South Story Road, Irving, Texas 75060, at 3:30 p.m. The following gentlemen who were both friends and key employees of the company her husband Jack Boles founded, and which Callie helped develope will serve as pallbearers. They are James Hatcher, Keith Burris, Eugene Vessells, David Barth, Ray Coston, Paul Weideman, Gary Ferraro, and James Ballard. Callie Boles will be buried with her "lovebird" husband in the Dallas-Ft..Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.
