Thomas Smith

Thomas Benson Smith, 32, A lifelong resident of Grand Prairie, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, Monday, October 29, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born on March 26, 1986 in Dallas, Texas, to the late Vincent Lemuel Smith Sr. and Sandra Janell O’Brien. Thomas attended and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 2004, and would then attend College at the University of Texas at Arlington. During high school Thomas found a passion for the youth group and would later become a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. Thomas was known for his love and passion for sports. His favorite teams where the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Texas Longhorns. Even during high school, Thomas was proud and loved to play Gopher Football and never missed a down, even when he was injured. He was a people person. He loved to make people laugh and smile, and was gifted at it, or at least he thought he was. Some might say “he thought he was funnier that what he actually was,” but to him, it was in his heart to make you smile. Thomas started a job at Discount Tire at the age of 16, and worked his way up to Assistant Manager, a job that he loved and admired so much. He loved to play around and crack jokes, but he could be a sore loser. Despite his almost perfect record at “Madden”, if he started losing it wouldn’t be surprising for him to jump up and just turn the whole game off. Thomas had a special bond with a lot of people, but most especially his Papaw. Often times Thomas would listen to stories he told over and over again. They spent so much time together and were often inseparable. Thomas leaves behind many family members and friends, and it’s important for everyone to know, that Thomas loved each and every one with his whole heart and nothing less. He will be deeply missed. Thomas is preceded in death by his father Vincent Lemuel Smith Sr.; sister, Sandra Smith; grandparents, Thomas and Elsada O’Brien, Allen Smith and Ona Fay Saunders. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Smith-Mendez and husband Rodney; sister, Melissa Perry and husband Bennie; brother, Vincent Smith and wife Kari; sister, Stacie Nuss; Nieces and nephews, Tyler, Angelina, Victoria, Dominique, Bennie Jr, Britni, Brooklyn, Cody, Blake, Alex, Nathan, Trevor, and a host of friends and family. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 in the chapel at the Funeral home. 500 East Main Street, Grand Prairie, Texas, 75050. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church, 401 W. Church Street, Grand Prairie, Texas, 75050. Burial: Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
