Edgar Alfred White

Born on November 19, 1947, in Bonham, Texas, Edgar Alfred White peacefully passed away on September 1, 2023, at his home in Grand Prairie, Texas, at the age of 75. He died of natural causes, surrounded by the love of his family. Edgar was a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, caring brother, and a dear friend to many. He attended schools in Grand Prairie, graduating from Grand Prairie High School. Edgar played football for Grand Prairie High School, to hear him tell it, he was the meanest one on the team. He had a passion for sports and giving back to kids who loved sports, umpired for little league, and high school baseball as well as coached Pee Wee football and little league baseball (Longhorns & Falcons). Another love of Edgar's was hunting and fishing. He spent a great amount of time hunting with his brother-in-law Ray Elliott, who was more like a brother. Oh, the stories they could tell! Edgar was a member of several Bass Clubs where he met his great buddy Jerry Burke. They fished many tournaments every year together and his favorite was Lake Amistad. In 2007 Edgar and Barbara purchased a farm in a small town outside of Bowie where he and his son, Michael, raised coastal hay, built a farmhouse, and had a place to hunt with all the things of home close by where all the family and friends were welcome. Edgar worked for GSA (General Services Administration) and retired after more than thirty-three years of faithful service. His first job was at the City of Grand Prairie working in the water department reading water meters. There was a time he worked nights for Yellow Freight making ends meet for his young family. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of those around him with his kindness, generosity, and gentle nature. Edgar will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Preceded in death by his father, Edgar White, mother, Ida White, and sister Linda Bidler. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Edgar is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Barbara White; his son, Michael White, and daughter-in-law, Justine White; his adored granddaughter, Jessica White; his brother, Gary Don White; his sisters, Nancy Hewett and Diane Ledhe; and his sister-in-law, Lori White. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Edgar's life at the Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, where public viewing will be held on September 5, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home on September 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Following the funeral service, Edgar will be laid to rest in a burial ceremony at Thurmond Fairview Cemetery in New Fairview, Texas. Edgar Alfred White's passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones and all who knew him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and strength in this time of grief.
