April 14, 1944 - March 8, 2022
Thomas John McDonald, 77, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away from this life into the loving arms of our Lord on March 8, 2022. On April 14, 1944, he was born to Joseph and Marie McDonald. Tom grew up in a large Irish Catholic family of 13 children in Minneapolis and then Mound, Minnesota, on Lake Minnetonka. He lovingly referred to his childhood as being raised in Camelot with endless stories of family picnics on the lake, water skiing, and memories with his cherished parents and siblings. Tom graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1962 and attended college at Minnesota State University in Mankato, graduating in 1967 with a B.A. Industrial Arts. He began his industrial air compressor career with Ingersoll Rand and moved to Texas in 1972. Tom's heart was always with his family in Minnesota, but he loved Texas and raised his family in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. There is no memory of Tom without his beaming smile and contagious laugh. He was a man of unconditional love and kindness who cherished visiting with family and friends. There are no bird or plant species he did not know and loved to share with you. Tom would happily fix anything broken, from a leaking pipe with a smile and his ready-to-go toolbox to a broken heart with a hug. Our biggest challenge was keeping him off ladders, rooftops, and out of tall trees. Any job or repair that needed to get tackled, he was first in line to get it done, whether we wanted him to or not. Tom loved every moment he could spend with his wife, Margaret, especially watching the sunsets together from their yard over the lake and fishing. There was no better father, and he was so very proud of his children. Tom's grandchildren were his pride and joy. He cherished spending time with them individually and at their sports or school functions. And he could never get enough of family vacations or events where we were all together. He taught us how to love family lake days and how to water ski, having himself a fantastic rooster tail spray of water into his 60s. He tolerated all our dogs, cats, all our additional friends at the dinner table, or whatever we had going on in our lives, including any bad choices we had made, with a hug, a smile, and an open heart. We admired and loved him infinitely; we shall miss him terribly and honor him by trying to walk the rest of our lives daily as he would with kindness and love. Proverbs 3:3 "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart." Because of Tom's love of life and his request not to have a depressing funeral, his family will hold a Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. at Peninsula Ranch at 7873 FM 2101, Quinlan, Texas 75474. Tom left behind his beloved wife, Margaret McDonald; daughter, Shannon Rohn; son, Sean McDonald and his wife, Leighanne McDonald; stepson, Michael Sean Blansett; grandchildren, Coleman Flaherty and his wife, Jade Flaherty; Conner McDonald, Cameron Rohn, Carson McDonald, Lauren McDonald; and siblings, Steve McDonald, Jerry McDonald, Jim McDonald, Karen Collins, Susie Gonzales, Kathy McDonald, Patty Nesbitt, Liz Rentfrow; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Marie McDonald, and Joseph McDonald; and his brothers, Richard "Dick" McDonald, Robert "Bob" McDonald, William "Terry" McDonald, and Peter McDonald.
